They gave you a desk in the server room? How bizarre.
I sit about 10 feet away from the 188th largest supercomputer in the
world (http://www.top500.org/list/2007/06/200). We used to be #100, but
things change quickly in the computer world.
The airflow for the cooling system goes almost through the wall of my
office. I use noise-cancelling headphones that I got at Office Depot
for about $30 or $40. Not as good as Bose, but it was within my price
range.
