TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
They are different in the only way that really matters:
employers can make lower offers for technical writers
(and most likely for a lot of other workers as well), and
have a sufficient pool of people who will accept those
offers. Employers in high-wage areas don't make higher
offers because the cost of living is higher; the higher
cost of living simply helps produce a hiring situation in
which there are few (or no) qualified people who will
accept the lower offers instead of leaving the area or
changing their occupations entirely.
