I'm inclined to think that if employees think that way
it's because their companies don't think that way
either. I've worked in a variety of different areas
(aircraft/aerospace, medical/laboratory instruments,
semiconductor IP and manufacturing being the
largest), and I always knew exactly what "industry"
I was working in, because the companies I worked
for did. If I had any confusion at all, there would
usually be some line in the company's annual report
that declared it to be "a leading xxx industry company."
