TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I know there are a few techwriters in Eastern Ontario, Canada, and you
probably use the internet... so:
Can any of you recommend in favo[u]r of an ADSL Internet Service
Provider in Eastern Ontario, Canada.
Also do you have any strong recommendations _against_ specific
providers.
Needs are:
- reliable (high up-time, and announcements ahead of planned
maintenance/downtime)
- prompt, efficient service (the script readers have a real tech
available)
- high (or no) usage caps
- high (or no) storage caps
- no throttling or "traffic shaping"
- no port-blocking
I'm asking about ADSL, because we already have it (so we know it works
and that we are at moderate distance from the local CO) and because we
do not even have cable at our house, nor do we foresee changing that.
PLEASE respond privately, and not to the list. If I get a cluster of
useful responses, I'll post a summary.
