In my first email to them I asked which of three courses--the PG Foundation
Diploma in Computer Science, the PG Diploma in Computer Science, or the HNC
in Computing--would be best for me, and provided enough background
information that they should have been able to advise me on that.
I did write to them again yesterday, asking whether they could send a
prospectus, and explaining that I couldn't submit the online application as
requested because the form was broken. I'd like to know a little more about
the institution and the support they offer before I do a full application.
Apart from what I've mentioned, there are various things that make me think
that they have a somewhat less than professional attitude. Some of the
individual modules on that program information page don't have a course
description. And the email they sent me was written really badly. Anyway,
I'm not ruling them out, but I am a little cautious.
This course looks to be pretty good: http://www.uel.ac.uk/dl/programmes/module_info/bsc_computing.htm
It's expensive, but there's the option to stop after 18 months or so and get
a certificate, or after two years and get a diploma. It looks quite
flexible. I'll contact the admissions department.
John, thanks for the MIT OpenCourseWare link. They've got some interesting
courses there. I'll have a good look at the materials in "6.189 A Gentle
Introduction to Programming Using Python". I wish they offered some
certification for distance learning with the OCW materials, though!
