Our company decided this year to discontinue paper manuals and provide
PDF and online-help versions only. This decision has had mixed responses
from our customers-some are fine with it, while others are very upset
about losing their paper manual. Of course, they are free to print parts
(or all) of the PDF version for their use, if they really want to. Some
customers have asked about having their manuals printed by a copying
service like Kinko's or Staples, and they're concerned about our
copyright, which currently says that "no part of this document or
associated online documentation may be reproduced or transmitted in any
form or by any means without the express written permission" of our
company.
I'm looking for samples of copyright verbiage (or information about
copyright laws) for this particular situation-I want customers to know
that they can print a copy for their own use, but at the same time we
want to maintain our copyright and obviously don't want them printing
multiple copies and selling them (I don't foresee this happening, but I
want the copyright statement to cover this base, just in case).
