TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Another problem with this article is the way full screenshots are depicted.
At the end of the PDF ( http://www.iwm-kmrc.de/workshops/visualization/gellevij.pdf), the steps have
long lines stretching to the element in the screenshot that the user is
supposed to click. For example, if I wrote "Click the Print button," I'd
have a line extending from the word Print to the actual Print button in a
full screenshot.
Although I like the lines, I doubt that kind of setup could be single
sourced well. I can only imagine creating that document in MS Word or some
other print layout tool. So even if I started using full screenshots with my
documentation, because I depict the full screenshots differently (without
lines stretching from my instructions to the screenshot elements), they may
not have the same effect.
