TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I didn't see it as an argument but as a discussion about what would be
helpful in a future study.

Look, I understand your perspective. But everyone here is arguing with
the only study actually done on this. Until or unless additional study
is done, we sound like government/church scientists arguing that OF
COURSE the sun goes around the earth, EVERYONE knows that, and any
evidence to the contrary is the work of Satan and obviously wrong!
I know this study -- possibly flawed, certainly old -- doesn't say what
we all think to be true in our infinite conventional wisdom. But we
either commission a new study, or we work with what we've got. Upon
meeting studies that don't make us happy, we can fight them, or we can
think about ways to use the information.
I didn't like it either, at first. But in the end, it helped me come up
with a best of both worlds scenario that I think ultimately made our
documents better than they were before while at the same time eliminated
the risk of making docs that some subset of users couldn't understand.
