I don't know of a source particularly geared to business writers, but
Martha Kolln has an insightful discussion -- with examples -- in her
_Rhetorical Grammar: Grammatical Choices, Rhetorical Effects_.

Joseph Williams draws upon this technique as well, I think, in his
chapters on coherence in _Style:Toward Clarity and Grace_.
