As the manager, I would have been embarrassed about the error and
annoyed at you for vandalizing my poster.
As a writer seeing "Santa Clause", I would have chuckled to myself and
gone about my business, realizing that it is not my job be the world's
grammar police.
How did the manager actually respond?

Last evening I visited the nearby "hometown" lumberyard/hardware

I informed both the manager and the cashier about the error, boldly
taking
out my pen and scratching out the trailing 'e' on one of the posters.

would you have reacted?
