The first person I know of who used "efforting" was Phil the Show Killer on
the Dan Patrick show on ESPN radio a few years ago. Dan would ask Phil if he
had a guest ready on the phone, and Phil would facetiously say he was
"efforting" to get that guest on the line. And yes, Dan would tease him
about that word.
Since then, I've heard other talk show hosts use the same term, apparently
unaware that it sounds ridiculous.
