That's an ugly one, and completely unnecessary. What's wrong with "attempting," "striving," or "trying"?

I'm afraid you're off base on that one, Ron. "Transact" has been a perfectly good verb with fine, upstanding Latin roots for hundreds of years. Here's the Merriam-Webster entry:
Main Entry:
transÂact
Pronunciation:
\tran-Ëzakt, tran(t)-Ësakt\
Function:
verb
Etymology:
Latin transactus, past participle of transigere to drive through, complete, transact, from trans- + agere to drive, do â more at agent
Date:
circa 1585
intransitive verb : to carry on business transitive verb 1 : to carry to completion <transact a sale> 2 : to carry on the operation or management of : do <transact business>
