Subject:Window terminology? From:Geoff Hart <ghart -at- videotron -dot- ca> To:Technical Writing <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com>, "Chinell, David F (GE EntSol, Security)" <David -dot- Chinell -at- GE -dot- com> Date:Fri, 27 Feb 2009 16:59:23 -0500
David Chinell wondered: <<The window has a title bar, a menu bar, a
tool bar, and a status bar.>>
What, no elevator bars? <g>
<<The bit in the middle is divided into two panes. But what IS the bit
in the middle called? The body of the window?>>
I'd call it the "contents" of the window. There may be more specific
wording that's appropriate, such as "the file list" or "the topic
hierarchy", but for generic use, "contents" will do.
