[Stephen Arrants] It's a good way for the STC to make money, I suppose. Sell the books, sell the training, sell the certification. Some may not see the STC as the umbrella organization, but it certainly does. And, so do some hiring managers and technical writers.
My question would be what do you do if a potential employee has a certification from the STC but the portfolio is wretched? The only certification I would trust as a hiring manager is past work. Your STC certification *may* get your resume package more notice, but it won't get me to hire you.
