TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I don't think I've said anything about not commenting - now would be the time. But predicting an end to life as we know it, the profession as we know it, and well, everything else is a little premature. Ambitious, one might even say.
And I'm betting that if you all would like to help define this program, STC would welcome it. Contact Steve for more info about how you can help.

Then it makes more sense to comment on things now, before they are set
in stone, yes? Of course, some comments are easier to put to
constructive use than others.
One aspect of this process that interests me is the external (i.e.
outside STC) sources of expertise, stories, lessons, etc. that the
certification committee makes use of. Richard Hamilton blogged about
FAA certification here, and I think it's worth a read to anyone else
with a similar interest:
