Medical field recommendations?

What would you recommend for a technical writer new to writing in the medical, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical fields? Books, areas of study, research resources, and whatever you feel would be beneficial to know would be greatly appreciated. I am familiar with software documentation, writing procedures, and the typical areas of technical documentation involving business and software applications. I am a total newbie in writing for the health professions. In the part of the country I am in, it seems as if the health-related industries are booming, and everything else is seriously declining. Software developers--usually a great source of contract work--are going out of business at an alarming rate. Any information, advice, or recommendations will be sincerely appreciated.
