LOL! That happened to me, except the potential candidate showed examples of
work that I knew another co-worker had developed from scratch and that this
potential candidate had just inherited the work, not developed it from
scratch as they claimed to have done. I just replied with an "incredulous"
tone in my voice, "Really? Wow, that looks really similar, if not darn near
identical, to <co-worker's name> work. Care to explain?" The potential
candidate muttered a few unintelligible comments, ducked their head, and
quickly excused themselves from the interview.
As that co-worker used to "Sigh! Some people's kids!"

I'd interviewed a candidate once that brought in a writing sample he
was quite proud of. I'd written it, to the version number. I pulled my
copy down from my bookshelf and showed him the door.
