Hi Julie,
Nope, it's not a freak problem that you are having. By default, because of
connections that go across the swim lanes, it behaves as you're describing.
I work with swim lanes extensively for a client, and I figured out how to
disconnect them from each other and resize and move w/out having to start
over. If you can accept attachments to your address, let me know and I will
send you the quick and dirty doc. that I wrote the details how to do this.
(and nope, it's not documented anywhere in MS's Online Help or their
supporting documentation.)
I can also post it here on the list in an email format, but there are some
graphics that support the instructions and w/out the graphics, it might not
be that clear.
Just let me know.

Subject: Problem with Visio cross functional diagrams
I'm working on a project where I need to construct MANY cross functional
(swim lane) diagrams. I have a lot of experience with Visio, but not a lot
with this particular type of process diagram. As you know, sometimes your
diagram grows bigger than the page you originally set up. My problem comes
when trying to reposition the diagram on the page - the swim lanes reorder
themselves and the entire diagram gets scrambled. I've used drag and drop as
well as the "center diagram on page" feature, with the same results.
Is this some issue with how I started the diagram originally, or is this
just some freak problem only I'm having?
