TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
The idea is that rebirthing the organization as an independent entity will enable a revitalization that will bring in new members.
A lot of the people coming to events on a regular basis hadn't been official STC members for years... we didn't feel that the annual dues were worth it, considering that none of the funds went to our local chapter. There just didn't seem to be any benefit to being affiliated with the STC any longer.
The general mood is that this is more an excellent opportunity to evolve in a way that suits the needs of the local pool of professional tech writers, rather than a fizzling out.
