Thanks to all for the voices of support against the topic of psych
tests being a fad. Team building is an art, which can only be helped
by science (or even pseudo science). I admit that there is a lot of
subjectivity with regards to the interpretation of a test, which is
why I would expect that people would consider taking more than one.
I spoke of Myers-Briggs, which I never formally took but followed
through the questionnaire my wife took while in a job finding program.
(There are also online versions). Our results showed that we're polar
opposites to one another, he understanding of which is key to the
strengthof our relationship.
I spoke of DISC, which helped me to quantify my needs and desires for
whatever role(s) I sought after. I don't waste time with stuff that
doesn't work.
I didn't talk about the major eye opener, the Birkman assessment,
which cost me something, but through relationships I was offered a
deal. On paper the deal wasn't great, but my results afterward were
worth 5 times what I paid.
Birkman analyzes the questions you don't answer, and it shows you how
you best perform under various conditions. Through coaching you learn
to use this report to recognize triggers and adapt tk the different
work situations. The report doesn't tell you that you will succeed or
fail at a job, but compares your profile to positions where people
reported great satisfaction.
The key is to know yourself well enough to be able to communicate when
your needs aren't being met. This helps you to aboid the curmudgeon
syndrome and get into a situation that offers more rewards.
I don't think every writer is as self aware as they could be, and from
the exchanges on this list I can tell that not everything writer
understands how they come across in print.
Madeline L'Engel wrote in Walking of Water that we don't pray out loud
for God's benefit. He already knows what we are going to ask for
before it comes up. We pray out loud for our benefit, for when we hear
ourselves speaking from our heart, we know whether or not what we pray
for is what we want.
By talking things out, we learn what we want. Maybe we learn that we
don't like to talk things out, Whih is anothe valid personality
profile.
