Got a question about global access to source files.
My company bought two companies in Europe; now we need to coordinate our documentation practices.
My company is the biggie in terms of volume of legacy documents; we do everything in FrameMaker and want the writers in our acquisitions to switch from Word to FrameMaker. We also want to have all tech writing source documents available in the same source control/version control system that is easy for everyone to use.
Currently, the tech doc source files of all three companies are far-flung in Windows Explorer directories living on servers and hard drives God knows where. My company has very basic SharePoint, which by itself is not workable for complex documents that involve dozens or hundreds of graphics file, each of which would have to be signed out individually. We are looking at SharePoint front ends that might work.
If you've been through a similar exercise, what solution did you choose, and why?
