The winner, for both me and the engineers, is, "variable". Runners-up were
flexible and load-sensitive.
In the bigger context that I didn't provide, there are issues with "dynamic"
and, especially, "scalable" (which was sent to me off-list). This whole
thing is in the context of lots of scaling modes and behaviors.
