There are still applications where the dichotomy is useful or
unavoidable. You can't embed the documentation in the UI when there
isn't one, which is the case with most of the complex enterprise
software I've documented in recent years.

That said, people have been making great strides in integrating
documentation with apps, even in my field. Take at Getting Started
with Docker, or the API docs with a window where you can run sample
code against a live server.
