TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
They are *office-suites*, both of them, include a *spreadsheet
application*, called Calc, etc. Compatible to Excel's XLSX.
They both support the DOCX format natively, the default saving format
is their in-house developed one (don't recall exact names).
Included in both cases are slide show applications, also compatible to
MS PowerPoint, PPTX; and additional ones I wouldn't need that often,
but could be useful.
The included export functions als o work fine, such as PDF, etc.
They are supported on all three major platforms, i.e. Windows, Linux
and macOS.
And, last but not at all least: THEY ARE FREE AND OPEN SOURCE. :D
Kind regards
Nina

Two other possibilities ... if you want to consider getting a Microsoft
Office Pro 2021 permanent license (not Office 365).
Some (not all) legit sites are selling "permanent" Microsoft Office Pro
2021 licenses for between $29 to $39 (sales from their usual $49).
I have purchased Softmaker's tools: [1]https://www.softmaker.com/en/ as
a pretty viable alternative.

Subject: Any of you using Corel WordPerfect?

Hello all,
I used to use WP back in the dark ages, but professionally got to using
Tandem's in-house doc formatting system, then Word :-(, then
FrameMaker,
then DITA, but now I am retired and have a new Windoze 11 machine. I do
not want to sign up for a subscription to M$ Office to use Word, but I
see that WordPerfect is still around and less than $100 for a one-time
purchase. I liked WP in part because it offers the visible tagging like
HTML uses.
Any caveats to offer me about adopting WordPerfect?
TIA,
Guy K. Haas
