I have used IslandDraw a little to create diagrams like
flowcharts. It has a feature that also appears in the
MS Windows application Visio. You can draw boxes and other
objects and connect them with lines in such a way that, when
you move the objects, the lines move and stay connected.
Dan may find this helpful.
I don't know anything about DecWrite or what it can import,
but IslandDraw does export a number of formats.
