I haven't checked recently, but Frame used to offer a free
demo version to anyone who asked. The demo version was
crippled -- you couldn't save anything and it printed
pages with "Printed from FrameMaker Demo" on them (or something
like that, it's been a while :-). Otherwise, it was fully
functional.
Seems like this would be a good way to learn a new package on
the cheap (assuming, of course, that you have a computer :-).
