Not to pick on John (sorry, John :( ), but HERE's one that gets me. FEWER
syllables, not less. Less applies to abstract or non-countable collections --
less loyalty, less water, etc. Fewer should be used if it's a physical thing
you can count: fewer syllables, fewer water molecules, etc.
Sorry, this one's a grammatical hot button for me. No offense meant, John -- I
correct this one in people's speech too (yes I know it's rude, but it's nearly
an autonomic reaction for me -- controlled by my brainstem, not conscious
thought <wry grin>).
