Multilingualism in Specialist Communication
Multilingual discourse has become an omnipresent phenomenon in modern
specialist communication. The intercultural classroom, on-line
translation in software localisation, multilingual business
communication,
language policies in multicultural societies, terminology management
etc.
are key issues in LSP research today.
Sections (all focussing on LSP and multilingualism):
- text linguistics
- language policies
- communication in the professions
- discourse analysis
- intercultural communication
- translation and interpretation
- language teaching and training
- technical writing
- philosophy of science
- language and terminology planning
- terminology theory
- lexicography
- language technology
- tecnolects and scientific language
Workshops on particular topics (specific language policies,
writing, professional discourse, language training in industry
etc.) are planned.
The symposium is organized under the auspices of and in
cooperation with the AILA Commission on LSP.
Call for papers and more detailed information will be circulated in
May 1994.
