Jane,
I tried to send this to you, but the message bounced back.
Here's my two cents:
Power Translator, about $100 at CompUSA (national chain?).
Comes in German version that translates text that you feed
it in either direction (German to/from English). Does rough
job, but you may find it's enough for your needs.
Same company also sells the Professional version for several
hundred dollars more. Try the non-Professional version first, as it comes
with a coupon of $99 credit toward the Pro version, if you
decide you need that. The Pro version comes with specialized
dictionaries (each for separate purchase) that cover specialized
vocabularies.
