Assistant Production Editor

The assistant production editor focuses, on imprints, checking the CNATS
database, and making sure that errors are corrected. This person also
contributes to multiple projects, getting involved during the book's
final stages. The assistant production editor needs to know (or be able
to learn) FrameMaker, UNIX, Emacs, and SGML. Good communication skills
and the ability to juggle miultiple tasks are important. Specific tasks
include:

--Using GNATS database
--Communicating with authors and editors about reprint corrections
--Coordinating with manugacturing and design staff to produce reprints
and revisions
--Entering edits and formatting instructions for reprints and new titles

Indexer

The indexer creates comprehensive hardcopy and online indexes for ORA
technical books. The indexer imports tags in online source files, generates
the index using special-purpose scripts and tools, edits the index, and
formats the final index pages. The indexer needs to know (or be able to
learn) te following formatting tools and languages: troff, SCML, FrameMaker,
UNIIX, and Emacs. The indexer should be comfortable handling multiple
projects and tight schedules. Communications skills, especially using
email are important. Specific tasks include:

--Distilling index entries from text
--Importing index tags into source files (troff, SGML, or FrameMaker)
--Generating and checking index pages
--Entering page breaks or other formatting instructions
--Making formatting changes for online preservatio of index

Requirement: Two years' experience indexing reference books or textbooks
