would appreciate any anecdotal or documented feedback about the
reaction to documentation presented using the comic book approach.

This will be anecdotal.

In Japan, comics appear to have the same stature as paperback "trashy" fiction
has here. They seem to be acknowledged as literature, but lower-class lit.

Here in the US, judging by the patronage at the local comic store, the average
reader seems to be a young (18-24) male. Whether this is causing or is caused by
the recent tendency of Hollywood to make comics into movies (seems to be about
4-5 per year) I don't know.
