The HTML character set is ISO Latin 1. There is no trademark symbol
in ISO Latin 1.
Although you can use the number codes through trial and error and get
a trademark symbol on the character set on your platform (as you did),
that character will NOT translate to other platforms. It will appear as
some other character or as gobbledegook.
The only way you can guarantee that a character is going to translate
reliably across platforms in your HTML files is to use only
the characters in ISO latin 1.
For TM, I recommend either using a small image or spelling it out (TM).
