Senior Technical Writer - Server documentation
Responsibilities: After a learning period, take responsibility for the
server documentation set, which currently consists of a user's guide,
reference manual, system administration manual, installation guides, and
release notes. The server runs on Unix and NT and is a layer on top of an
RDBMS. As the product grows in depth and sophistication, enhance the
existing manuals and propose and write additional manuals if needed.
Estimate and maintain schedules. Gather information by interviewing software
engineers and reading engineering specs. Participate in project meetings.
Participate in shaping the future of our documentation as a member of a
small, growing technical publications team.
Qualifications: At least three years experience writing for a technical
audience. An understanding of the basic concepts of object-oriented
programming and client/server technology. Knowledge of SQL. Ability to write
clearly and succinctly about technical concepts. Ability to work both
independently and as a responsible member of a team. BA or equivalent.
Working knowledge of FrameMaker. Pluses include experience with Windows 95,
FrameMaker templates, and Word macros.
Technical Writer - End-user documentation
Responsibilities: Plan and write new manuals for end-users of GUI software.
Maintain and enhance existing manuals. Write installation and release notes.
Index manuals and make screen captures. Estimate and maintain schedules.
Gather information by interviewing software engineers, reading engineering
specs, and using Beta software. Participate in interface design meetings and
other project meetings. Participate in shaping the future of our
documentation as a member of a small, growing technical publications team.
Qualifications: At least two years experience writing is required, including
one year writing for end-users of GUI software. Ability to write clear,
concise, accurate, task-oriented procedural manuals. Ability to take the
user's point of view. Ability to work both independently and as a
responsible member of a team. BA or equivalent. Working knowledge of
FrameMaker. Pluses include experience with Windows 95, FrameMaker templates,
and Word macros.
