I have to agree that the page layout is busy. I can't comment on the index because I just sat down and read the book; to me at least, it was that interesting. I didn't see any big editing problems.
I totally disagree with the statement that the book does not contain much useful information; it's packed with it! I can however, see how it might be difficult to use as a quick reference. You really have to read through this book to derive the greatest benefit from it.
