TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Emma,
For what it's worth: I am the only writer at my company and I use
FrameMaker to write the doc. Everyone else uses Word. If I need to write
a memo or something internal, I write it in Word. But the documentation
is always in FrameMaker (online help in RoboHELP). I convert the docs to
PDF for those who want to access them online. It hasn't been a problem
so far. Maybe you can have your cake and eat it too. Good luck!
