For the audience you describe, the repetition sounds unavoidable. It's
boring to write, of course, but you can probably do a lot of copy and
paste. The readers will probably be less likely to worry about the
repetition - after all, they probably won't be reading the manual cover
to cover, so much as turning to the information they want.
