write protect anomaly

     I don't think AutoCorrect and AutoSave have anything to do with your
     problem (but I've been wrong before)

     When you select your template, are you selecting it from a template
     list, or are you doing a File, Open?  File, Open will nail you every
     time.

     If you create a new workgroup template, always copy it to the
     directory where all of the other workgroup templates exist.  Then
     File, New (not! File, Open) will display the list of templates and
     your new template will be in that list.

     Also, you may need to tell your app where to find the workgroup
     templates.  For Word, it's under, Tools, Options, File Locations.

     Hope this helps at least a little bit. Let me know how you solved your
     problem and what app you're running, I'd love to learn a thing or two
     from your woes.

     I have a few other ideas, in the back of my brain (most involve file
     server stuff).  But I'll hold onto those until you tell me that you
     need more suggestions.
