Howdy,
Pardon me if I am a little late on this subject.
The only time I found this a problem was when I
was being paid about 2/3 the going rate. Every time
I would answer this truthfully I got a "you are far
to low level, why would I want to hire you" look or
an offer at the same low rate (I was leaving because
I was being paid too little). Finally, I just told
someone "this is my rate and this is why I am worth
it". It's not been a problem since. Now I expect to
be paid right in my current range. I would happily
tell them what I am making.
A friend of mine just got an offer based on the
salary background he provided (saying he made $10,000+
what he was really making). I am not comfortable
doing this, but if you are, sounds like it works.
Just to let you know, my boss is interviewing for
programmers. He will not consider anyone who will
not provide a salary background. And they are doing
the first culling based on salary background (cutting
out too low and too high). I guess it might work.
Anybody know if this is a trend?
