Responsibilities: Under supervision, research, write, update, edit, and
proofread product documentation, including manuals, installation and release
notes, and possibly online help or HTML files. Index manuals, make screen
captures, and perform other desktop publishing tasks. Gather information by
interviewing software engineers, reading engineering specs, and using
software. Participate in shaping the future of our documentation as a member
of a small technical publications team.
Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to write both conceptual material and
step-by-step instructions. Ability to grasp technical material and write
clearly and succinctly about technical concepts. Ability to adhere to a
style guide and revise one's writing on the basis of editorial comments.
Basic desktop publishing skills. Ability to follow instructions, prioritize
tasks, meet deadlines, and work as a responsible member of a team. BA or
equivalent. Pluses include familiarity with technical writing methods,
client/server technology, object-oriented programming, a programming
language, FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, online help/RoboHELP, HTML/Web
publishing, screen capture, or graphics.
