"Sprint training gets personal

Computer manuals and help guides have been derided for years as hard to
understand and difficult to follow. Sprint Communications Corp. is
trying to put a human touch on the Internet by offering a "personal
trainer" service--a guide to hold users' hands as they install software
plug-ins or personalize their desktops.
The new service is being launched today in a trial for some users of
Sprint Internet Passport, the long-distance company's Internet service.
The full service, at a cost of $9.95 per call, will be available to
Sprint's ISP customers Jan. 15.
Services offered will range from help at installing software to lessons
on how to buy stock online, said company spokesman Jeff Shafer. Sprint's
personal trainers will learn about one module a week that they can then
help customers with, Shafer said. Customers will be able to call back
for free within 48 hours of their inital call if they need more help."
