My best Christmas present this year was a chat with a stranger at a
Christmas party. She manages scheduling for a large school district
maintenance, a very computer-intensive activity. Guess how she learns
the systems and uses them? SHE READS THE MANUALS! She says the manuals
are very important to her and to the people on her staff. She reads them
before beginning to use a new program. She follows them during setup,
and she refers to them later.
I guess I've heard the off-hand comment "nobody reads the manuals" often
enough that I've started to believe it at some level. My little chat
with her gave me a warm glow. So, I'm sharing the joy with you. Merry
Christmas!
