TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
To my mind, "documentation" and "quality standards" are two different
animals entirely. Here, the technical writers are called Application
Developers/KT and the department is called Knowledge Transfer Development.
We have an assistant group, which concentrates on formatting, extracting,
etc. and they are called Technical Documentation Services. We're all under
the umbrella of Customer Communication Services, which includes phone
support and education. Quality Assurance is in another group, completely
separate from us.

We are a technical documentation group (13 members) for a Chicago =
Corporation. We do manuals, newsletters, online help, web writing, =
proposals, etc. We are looking to rename our organization and would like =
to hear from anyone who has a tech writing group name(s) of interest or =
know of lists of same. Currently our organization is called Documentation =
and Quality Standards (DQST pronounced DeQuest). No idea is a bad idea. =
Thanks in advance.
