We use a problem (bug) database that includes "enhancement" as a category of
fix. Whether a customer calls support, or communicates the request to
someone else in the company, any request for changes (fixes or enhancements)
to our products is logged in the database, given a priority, and assigned to
someone to follow up.
Granted, not every company has a formal procedure. I would think a letter
asking for an enhancement would be
taken seriously by management, without the bother of formulating a major
document.
If not, maybe looking for a new vendor would be more cost effective.
