One good question to ask is:
"What is the company culture, and more precisely, what is the departmental
culture like?"
Part of finding that dream job (or a good job) is a good fit between you and
the company culture.
For example:
Some companies have a "culture" where the majority of the employees are "new
hires" who enjoy the 60-80 hour work weeks. If you are into your children's
soccer practices and coach also, maybe that culture will not be a good fit.
On the other hand, if you are a workaholic, and the company culture is
"country club", you are going to be alienated.
Asking about the company culture gives the hiring manager a chance to
explain a little more about what the work-a-day life is going to be like if
you join them.
