Thanks to everyone who sent an answer to my question. For those of you who
may be wondering how this is done, Kimberly Wilhelm sent the following
procedure:
It is possible to apply two styles to a single paragraph in Word. You
need to apply your paragraph style (Normal, for instance) then define a
*character* style that has the attributes you want for the different
format. To do that, you need to select Format>>Style then press the New
button. In the Style Type dropdown list, select Character, then continue
defining the parameters for that style, which you can then apply to
individual words within your Normal paragraph. This is the same for both
Word 95 and Word 97.
