I don't know how much this helps, but when we moved to Arizona a few
years back, we were able to deduct at least part of the cost of the
move. I don't remember if we wound up itemizing and I'm not sure if
that still applies, but it's worth looking into.
Also, this might be obvious, but shop around with the movers. In our
last move, we got estimates that varied widely. And with the estimate,
make sure you get a cap.
And make sure you've got a reputable mover. My cousin's husband's
company moved them and used Uncle Lou's movers or something like that
and it was a nightmare. We've been moved by Graebel and Interstate and
they both did a good job.
