Yes, you can deduct moving expenses (within the limits set by the IRS - only
certain expenses are deductible and you must meet certain tests). You can
deduct these expenses even if you don't itemize your decuctions. You will
need to fill out IRS form 3903. You can get more instructions in Pub 521
which you can get at www.irs.ustreas.gov.

I don't know how much this helps, but when we moved to Arizona a few
years back, we were able to deduct at least part of the cost of the
move. I don't remember if we wound up itemizing and I'm not sure if
that still applies, but it's worth looking into.
Also, this might be obvious, but shop around with the movers. In our
last move, we got estimates that varied widely. And with the
estimate,
make sure you get a cap.
And make sure you've got a reputable mover. My cousin's husband's
company moved them and used Uncle Lou's movers or something like
that
and it was a nightmare. We've been moved by Graebel and Interstate
and
they both did a good job.
Hope this helps. Happy Thanksgiving to those who are so inclined to
celebrate it.
