25 years experience in Television Broadcasting (In the areas of production
and engineering).
I have been technical writing for 5 years in the Areospace industry.
I got into technical writing in quite different way than most people. I was
layed off while working
in broadcasting and could not find a job because I was in my 40s. I found a
posting at the local
community college for a technical writer. With the encouragement of my wife,
I applied for the
job. With my broadcasting background and the curiosity of my potential
employer, I was given
an interview. My technical experience plus the fact that I wrote technical
articles for a local group
newsletter of the International Television Association got me the job. In
the 5 years I have been
with my present employer, I have worked myself up from an Associate
Technical Writer to
Senior Technical Writer and went back to college. I received my degree in
1996 with a GPA of
3.65. My employer did request my GPA when I was hired and when I finished my
degree.
I do miss broadcasting but thoroughly enjoy what I am doing now.
