You and several others got your feathers ruffled because you believe
that the intent of the message wasn't understood properly..and you know
the environment of this list..at times it can be quite a free-for-all.
Now, put yourself in the place of a person, recruiter or company who
has something of value to us; a job. As you know, many people find the
idea of posting ANYTHING to 4,000 blank faces intimidating, or else we
would have 4,000 active voices instead of maybe 100 regulars. OK,
knowing that a large number of people are very hesitant to post
anything, they work up the courage to post a job opening, and they
receive what they perceive to be a put-down, even though to some of us
it is a suggestion.
They just don't need it.
Let's deal in reality. People with available positions are not posting
because they are afraid. We need to bend over backwards to make them
feel comfortable.
Yes, it would be nice to have the same message posted simultaneously in
every form that every reader would like to see. However, let's balance
the effort between 3 seconds of message scanning to know it is in
Australia against the possibility that we're only seeing half of the
possible positions.
I would even put forth the proposition that any job posting be immune
from critiques unless they edge into the area of bad taste, poor ethical
behavior, legal issues, etc., and are germane to this forum.
