Here is some information in reply to Beth Davy's and Michelle Parcell's
posts for assistance. Now don't be mad at me if you think this chokes the
bandwidth. It's Sunday, and I can't help myself for doing it.

There is an old saying where I hail from that "a dog that roams about
eventually finds a bone." So if you pursue your aim to seek a technical
writing position by roaming the Internet, you'll find a technical writing
position.

I will leave you with this brief story. About three plus years ago, a
colleague posted his resume on the Internet. Within a week he found a
wonderful position that paid 30k more than his current position. Until then
I was too good, I thought, to do this. I immediately posted my resume on the
Internet. The phone rang non-stop at home for three days. So...I'm a
believer, and I hope this sample information will help you, too.

JOB FINDERS
Here are a number of the more popular and nearly popular sites to initiate a
job search. Don't rely on these alone! Many corporate and product sites have
technical writing positions YOU WILL NEVER SEE at the sites below. Therefore
when cruising the electronic ion highway of particle dimension, JUMP to
links that say 'employment', etc.

SEARCH ENGINES
Type in the search field of these search engines: 'recruiter'; 'employment';
'tech writer'; 'technical writer'; 'document specialist'. Remember: not all
search engines give the same results! I have found hits on Hotbot I never
saw in Google, for example. Try more than one search engine.

FREELANCE
In the absence of any relevant work history, do freelance writing and build
a portfolio. If you have a lot of experience, do it anyway. Nothing
impresses a prospective employer or client than a writer who is *published*.
Yes, they see you as a star. Try these sites for freelance work, or use
search engines to find other sites. Use the words "freelance writer" or just
"freelance". There are many opportunities out there!

UTILITY AND PIM
Use a good *searchable* URL utility to save and track your jobsite URLs. And
use a good PIM to track your job search e-mail and phone conversations.
Outlook 98 is a highly recommended PIM and e-mail client. Microsoft has
discontinued support so I imagine you wont find it available on its free
products download web page. Try to find someone who has a CD version...it
was once freely distributed by PC magazines as a CD insert with other
programs. Company IS or IT departments may have a copy, too, so if you have
a friend working for one.... ;-)
